    Part M Plan Design Reviews

    Are you undertaking a renovation, refurbishment or new build?

    I provide ongoing consultancy to support the design team through the relevant RIBA design stages helping you to secure statutory approvals. This will also provide reassurance to the client that there should be no costly and disruptive accessibility issues post occupancy.

    Inclusive Design Statements for Planning

    Do you need help securing planning permission?

    Working with you through RIBA Stage 3 Spatial Coordination, I can support you with the Design and Access Statement (DAS) and end of stage inclusive design review. Policy D5 of the London Plan 2021 requires that Design and Access Statements should include an inclusive design statement.

    Access Statements / Strategies for BCB

    Do you need help securing Building Regulations Part M approval?

    I prepare robust access strategies (sometimes referred to as access statements). The access strategy will explain to your local authority building control body, or AI, how access for disabled people is incorporated into the project under the Building Regulations Part M.

    Inclusive Design and Access Audits

    Do you need help assessing an existing building or environment for accessibility?

    I provide two levels of Access Audit report to suit your budget and requirements; a Level 1 Tour and Talk Access Audit Summary and a Level 2 Comprehensive Photographic Access Audit. The Access Audit reports provide recommendations for reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.

    Designing to Best Practice Standards for Access?

    Do you need help creating an exemplary inclusive and accessible environment?

    Supporting you so that your design meets current best practice standards for accessibility and inclusion by referring to a comprehensive library of design guidance including the British Standards BS 8300, PAS 6463:2022 Design for the mind and International Standard ISO 21542.

    Colour, Visual Contrast and LRVs

    Do you need help with colour selection for people who are partially sighted?

    Supporting you with colour and finish selection to ensure that there is a suitable level of visual contrast between the proposed elements. I can also help to determine light reflectance values (LRVs) if you have a colour or finish which has no published LRV rating.

    Finishes and FF&E Selection

    Do you need help selecting finishes / furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E)?

    I can review the suitability of proposed finishes and products to give the design team and the client confidence in the proposed selection. I can also help you design bespoke furniture in terms of ergonomics and accessibility for disabled people.

    Signage, Wayfinding, Graphics and Trails

    Do you need help with the design of signage, wayfinding or trails?

    I can review your graphic design proposals to help ensure signage is accessible to blind and partially sighted people, people who are colour blind and some people on the autism spectrum using the principle of two senses. This could include audible, tactile and visual information.
